Pirate’s
The Jolly Roger flag that is flown on every campaign was designed by Captain Paul Watson and drawn by the society’s artist Geert Von Jans. The flag depicts a crossed shepherd staff and Neptune’s trident, which signifies that they are shepherds of the sea and that they fight for life in the sea. The skull represents the enemy of the sea (humans) and the yin and yang symbol (made using a sperm whale and dolphin) reminds us of the need to live in harmony with our environment. But why the pirate theme, Paul Watson answers: “sometimes it’s the good guys who wear black and sometimes pirates are heroes”
